>Jeremey Petticrew, good friend and bassist for the college service, Crosspoint, at Grace Bible Church, share a good bit of mutual interest in various bands. It’s pretty safe to say that generally, Jeremey and I will like most of the same stuff. In fact, the first conversation I ever had with this guy consisted of us both gushing over the work of all three members of, then, former blink-182 members in bands such as +44 and Angels and Airwaves - and of course, blink. He’s a very funny and likable guy, but…

I have a bone to pick with Mr. Petticrew. On Saturday evening, he posted the following statement on Twitter:

U2 sucks. There, I said it.- about 23 hours ago from txt

One might wonder if he was intoxicated when making this comment. But, I know for a fact Jeremey doesn’t drink. In fact, not only does he steer clear of alcohol - but caffeinated beverages and juices, as well (that’s, quite possibly, another blog in itself.) So, we can scratch that reason off the list. He’s a good musician and has great taste in music - so the thought that he could be blind to good music is not a factor in this criticism. So where’s the dislike for U2 coming from? How could such an intelligent young man have such blatant disregard for such an influential cluster of musicians that have put forth such incredible songs?

I wish I knew. Maybe he’ll enlighten me here. Maybe we’ll meet up in a dark alley somewhere and I’ll punch it out of him. So, in light of Petticrew’s public ridicule of music legend, U2, I am going to embark on a quest for the remainder of the year. It’s quite simple.

From now until December 31st, I’m going to convert Mr. Petticrew over to the goodness that is Bono and the boys. A great musician such as Jeremy needs to be influenced by these guys. Their creativity, musicianship, showmanship, and rockstar presence is something I’m sure he’ll find intriguing - if he just gives it a shot. So here’s how this is going to go down - phase one will be dinner and a concert DVD, “U2 Go Home: Live at Slain Castle”. College kids can’t turn down free food, right?

Jeremey - are you in? Do you accept my offer? Can you give them another shot? I will keep you updated on the conversion process. I know, at times, the task may be daunting - but for the sake of all things good, U2 must not be mocked.
